“The service checking in was run by a nasty person. We came to Scottsdale hoping for better hiking weather and got stuck because of winter storm closures. My wife booked online and the front desk refused to give us a room because my wife's name on her card didn't match her driver's license. My friend had a medical condition and wanted to see the room and she immediately denied us showing the room saying "we don't allow guests to see the room". the whole lobby smelled like cigarettes and alcohol, so that is probably why. In addition to being horribly intolerant, she went out of her way to notify all other local hotels to warn them not to give us a room using some internal social network that is shared between Marriot and other hotels. The Holiday Inn down the street was happy to accommodate us despite this disgusting person trying to prevent us staying overnight to wait out the storm. They even agreed with us this person at Marriott is nasty because they have heard from her before. I've never seen such nastiness going out of her way to try and tell other hotels not to allow us to book a room. This Marriott was so grotesque I will never stay at another Marriott again.”

“The entire experience was a solid okay - the value might not be there but it's okay. I usually travel to Scottsdale for business so stay often at hotels in the nearby area. I will have nothing but absolutely great things about the staff, from the front desk, to the cleaning crew, to the bartender - all of them were fantastic and made me feel incredibly welcome. My only reason for the 3 star is the value proposition. I'm definitely aware that this is an older building, but it is hard to justify the room rate compared to the Hyatt down the street. I stayed in 155 during my time - the vaulted ceilings were a surprise. Not bad, just weird. It kinda made the room feel smaller. I was bumped to a two-bed room despite traveling solo (and not bad either, I don't mind). It just felt like a smaller room with all the desk/tv/etc on one side of the room. The vinyl flooring didn't make me think it was worth the price I was being charged either -part of the flooring in the bathroom was bowing up and you could feel it flexing when you stepped on it. Location was pretty convenient, with it's own light off Scottsdale road, near the Loop 101. It was a very solid okay. The TV service worked better than the Hyatt or Extended Stay America ever did which was a surprise. I would definitely consider the Hyatt over this if the price is competitive, but it did still have a little charm to it, only enhanced by the staff. 4/3/23 edit: 3 stars is probably too harsh for an "okay" experience so I bumped it up to 4. It really was just okay for the value.”
